Young Children in Nursery

For children aged 3-5 years

As your child grows and develops their needs change and they enjoy getting to know more children and spending time with friends of a similar age. Key workers still play a pivotal role in your child’s nursery life, ensuring that they are offered every opportunity to explore their world, offer an environment rich with curiosity and creativity for learning that will build self-awareness and confidence in their own learning skills.

In Scotland the young child will engage in many learning opportunites delivered from the Curriculum for Excellence, at Early Stage level.

This curriculum allows us to concentrate on providing opportunities for the children to become:

  • Confident Individuals
  • Responsible Citizens
  • Effective Contributors
  • Successful Learners
Pre-school

Our range of play experiences enables children to explore their world and develop their skills in a friendly, loving and secure environment, which leads to achieving learning outcomes across all areas of the curriculum.

During their time in the Young Children's playroom the motivated and enthusiastic staff ensure the guidance from Realising the Ambition, Being Me is implemented in all areas of the setting.  This would include staff knowing everything about your child as well understanding their individual learning needs, what is important to them in play and supporting transitions effectively onto school.

In the final months before starting school your child will participate in a transition programme individual to them, parents will be informed of each step. We at Step by Step realise what a big change moving onto school can be.  There is always an exciting Graduation Day too, an absolute celebration of your young child's learning journey through nursery.
